What graders actually look at
Four checks you can do at your kitchen table before a single card ships.
Centering
Graders measure how evenly the borders frame the card — top-to-bottom and left-to-right. Off-center cards cap out below gem mint, no matter how clean the rest of the card is. Compare all four borders before you sleeve.
Surface
Print lines, scratches, fingerprints, and wax stains live here. Tilt the card under a bright light at an angle; surface flaws hide face-on and announce themselves on the tilt. Never wipe a card dry.
Corners & Edges
Soft corners and edge whitening are the most common grade killers. Check each corner under magnification and run a soft eye along the edges against a dark background — white specks show immediately.
Safe Card Care
Penny sleeve first, then a toploader or semi-rigid — never bare fingers on the surface, never rubber bands, never stacked loose in a box. Store upright, out of sunlight and humidity swings, until submission.
